I Love Polar Bears: Facts About The Environment and Green Energy
It's an undisputed fact, the temperature of the earth is rising 2 degrees by 2050 and there's nothing we can do about it, the damage is already done. Our shorelines will disappear, storms will be greater, people will be displaced, and many species will become extinct in our lifetimes because of our habits.
Scientists say that we need to do something about this today, that if we seriously cut our CO2 emissions now, we'll be able to keep the rise to just 2 degrees after 2050. We're not going to stop driving our cars and taking airplane trips but there is something we can do, that takes 5 minutes and one phone call to lower the emissions of your family and household and the extra cost is nearly negligible.
If we take responsibility for our part of the damage, maybe, just maybe, our children's children will know what a polar bear is.
Take out your electric bill and put "call utility company" on your list of things to do. Although a small portion of the below info is for New York City and the surrounding counties (Rockland, Orange, Westchester, etc.), most utility companies have their own green energy plans. Call your local utility and simply ask them about the green alternatives in your area.

I was surprised to find out recently that where ever we are in the country, we can choose an energy supplier that will supply the exact amount of clean energy we use to the common electric grid. I was also surprised that making this switch would only cost me $1 more per month in winter and $3 in summer (this was 2006). And you might have a certain portion of the sales tax reduced on your bill!
You can choose one of several green suppliers and your local utility company continues to distribute the energy. If you choose an outside energy supplier, be careful to ensure they are legitimate, as I was recently informed that one of the companies that my own local utility recommends has been duping their customers. You don't have any disruption in service. The energy is simply created and put into the system using green, sustainable means: hydropower, solar.
